Top Ten Twitter Tips
By Paula Attfield on May 25, 2011
Social media can be a great way to find new audiences for you and for your charity. Whether you’re a newbie or an intermediate user, here are 10 tips that will help you navigate Twitter:
- Talk to fellow tweeters, start a conversation, engage.

- ReTweet (RT) other people’s messages, especially if they say something worth sharing.
- Thank new followers (if you’re ambitious).
- #FollowFriday your favourite tweeters (explain why they’re worth following).
- Check out the “who to follow” section on your Twitter home page. You’ll find some interesting and like-minded people to follow.
- Have a look at who other people are following for good ideas on who to follow.
- If you want to know who is or isn’t following you back, check out http://friendorfollow.com.
- Do not auto-connect your Twitter feed to your Facebook account. This is just annoying.
- Include your photo and an interesting bio in your profile. This tells potential followers who you are and why they would want to follow you.
- Two final gratuitous tips in one:
a) Follow me, Paula Attfield, on Twitter
b) Follow Stephen Thomas Ltd on Twitter

Nice post Paula! I might add — It’s always best to have a clear objective for your overall Twitter account, maybe it’s branding or awareness, sales or promotion, fundraising or advocacy, but it’s nice to throw in the occasional off-topic tweet that can spark conversation.
P.S. I already follow both accounts, so I’m ahead of the curve!!
