A manifesto for the Young Non-Profit Professionals (YNP)
By Brock Warner on March 25, 2011
For the past 30 years, ST has worked exclusively with charities and non-profits. Name any Canadian charity, and I bet you can connect it to Stephen Thomas in 2 to 3 degrees of separation, if not 1.
As an agency we get to see what happens behind the scenes. We see who comes, who stays, the politics, and more. We’ve noticed a trend whereby younger, more junior staff are being passed over for the learning and networking opportunities that they need because of budgetary constraints. When the young staff do attend conferences or networking events, the content and/or context are too frequently suited to someone in a more senior position.
Our vision for YNP is a vibrant community for Young Non-Profit Professionals that will provide affordable educational opportunities and allow members to share and grow together into the future leaders of the sector.
YNP was created to help young people in our sector do 3 things:
- Connect
- Learn
- Share
We consider YNP a community, rather than an association. If you want to be part of the community and be kept in the loop about upcoming events, there is no annual fee or membership dues. Just sign-up using the link below, and we’ll keep in touch.
To become a part of YNP:
STEP 1: Sign-up to the YNP mailing list
STEP 2: ‘like’ us on Facebook

Great initiative! I’ll encourage lots of Humber students and grads to get involved.

Thanks Ken! We’ll do everything we can to support the community as the demand grows, and having your endorsement will be a huge help.

Well done Brock and Diane for such a successful first event! Some of us “old-timers” at ST look forward to contributing as well!

As an attendee, I can honestly say that Brock, Diane and Drew put on an AMAZING event! Breaking new ground in a vibrant community. I met so many great people. Looking forward to Round 2!

So is this group for over 40 year olds…that are passionate about development and fundraising? I’d love to network…I’m the Arts Consultant in the group, and just recently started a new job for the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Here’s our site http://www.nyoc.org
Keep me in the loop!
Ian

Great stuff! Fantastic. I can’t agree more. Can older fundraisers join?

Hi Mike and Ian,
We hope that anyone who wants to be involved with YNP in some way can be. Ian, for example, while educational sessions will be targeted at more junior positions, we will still have networking events open to all. That may be a great opportunity for you to network with YNP’ers and spread the word about NYOC.
Thanks!
Brock

I think this is fantastic. Do you only work with young professionals in Toronto? I live in Victoria, BC and work for a non-profit, CHOICES Adoption. I’d love some more info as to how I/we can get involved!
